The Boys from Brazil (1978) is a thriller adapted from the novel by Ira Levin. The movie pits Nazi war-criminal Josef Mengele, played by Gregory Peck, against his pursuer Ezra Lieberman, played by Laurence Olivier. Ezra's character is loosely based on the Nazi-hunter Simon Wiesenthal.

        Ezra must thwart the dastardly Mengele's plot to clone Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler and produce hundreds of genetically identical copies of Hitler. Mengele hopes that raising them in environments similar to that of the young Hitler will produce a new Fuhrer. Fortunately Dr Mengele underestimates phenotypic plasticity in higher vertebrates; and the scheme fails.

An intensive process of neo-Pavlovian conditioning complements genetic predestination to ensure social stabiliy. Hypnopaedia is employed to teach the children ethics. While the babies and children are asleep, ethical phrases are played repeatedly so that the phrases will become a subconscious part of the each personOnlity. Only at the very highest levels does individuality threaten to break through. Helmholtz Watson is an intellectually superior Alpha who has become disillusioned with the society.
